Liverpool Expect Attacker To Stay At Anfield Despite Interest From Turkish Giants

Lazar Markovic, who has not made a senior appearance for us in over two years, is set to remain a Liverpool player at least until the January transfer window.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Serbian was linked with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce as their transfer deadline is on Friday. However, that deal won’t happen and the winger will remain at Anfield.

Lazar did spend last season on loan and did a really good job for Hull City under Marco Silva in the second half of the season. The Serbian was expected to join Silva at Watford this summer but again, no deal was finalised and the winger hasn’t been able to seal a move away.

He did play for us in one of our pre-season fixtures, against Tranmere but didn’t play for us after that. Markovic was not included in the 25-man squad for the Champions League group stage, however, he was included in the Premier League side.

The Serbian might end up playing in the League Cup too but that seems unlikely unless a number of our first-team players end up being injured. It is bit sad for a player who came for a pretty big price, that he has failed to light up the Premier League.

The former Benfica player might just find his form for another club where there is not a lot of pressure and under Silva, he could have gotten on with his business. The 23-year-old could still recover and become like Alberto Moreno, who has found another lease of life at the club.

The Spaniard was expected to be one of our first players to leave in the window, however, he turned his career around and is now in contention for the left-back spot alongside Andrew Robertson.

Markovic has all the tools to succeed under Klopp and our playing style. The Serbian has a lot of pace and energy but the major problem with his game is the final product. Hopefully, he can learn a thing or two under Klopp and become another “new signing” for us soon.
