Liverpool Are Close To Securing Deal For Highly-rated Teenager Next Month

It has been quite a week for Welsh sensation Ben Woodburn. The 17-year-old played a huge role in both World Cup qualifiers for Wales as they came out victorious against Austria and Moldova. The Liverpool youngster set up a goal in the win over Moldova while it was his incredible strike that gave Wales all three points against Austria.

Thanks to these performances that the player is reportedly set to sign a new deal with us. The Guardian

reports that Woodburn would be eligible for a new contract when he turns 18 and Jurgen Klopp is willing to offer a five-year deal.

Woodburn has been on a meteoric rise since the start of last season as he first became the youngest goal scorer for us when he scored in the League Cup win over Leeds United. We didn’t really see a lot of goal-scoring from him after that but he did play a number of Premier League games for us.

Klopp had always maintained that the player was special but he had to be protected. Chris Coleman has used him for the national side and it does seem like Woodburn is ready for the big stage.

Klopp hasn’t included the youngster in any of our match day squads this season but thanks to a packed schedule, we might see a lot of Woodburn this time around. The report from the Guardian mentions that we would be offering him a deal just before his 18th birthday and once that date passes, he should sign a long-term deal with us.

Woodburn is just one of a handful of young stars that Klopp seems to trust. Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo are just a few names that could turn out to be the next big stars.

We have already seen Trent Alexander-Arnold become our first-choice right-back, at least until Nathaniel Clyne comes back from injury. Even Joe Gomez seems to have found his form and did do a pretty good job in the 4-0 win over Arsenal.

Should Woodburn continue his upward trajectory, he should turn out to be our next big star and Klopp seems to have got it spot on once again, when it comes to identifying young talents from our academy.
