Liverpool Prepares For The Champions League Campaign

Since Liverpool Football club has made it to the last 16 they will need to prepare for the toughest test yet as they face top teams in the champions League.

It was good news for Liverpool after they qualified for the last 16 in the UEFA Champions League. The best news was that they did it in style just like a stylish for instance. Not only did they lead their Group E, they humiliated the Russian side, Spartak Moscow, by beating them 7-0. Philippe Coutinho was the man of the match after he registered his first hat-trick in the competition. Despite the show of dominance by Liverpool on the road, to qualify for the last 16, Roy Keane, a former football player and currently an assistant coach is not impressed. The following are the reasons why:

They have not played against worthy opponents

Liverpool have not come across a team that could match them in the Champions league. Although impressive, as they lead the Group E, they still need to face tougher teams if they are to convince critics that they are the team to beat.

They have had it easy throughout the competition

It was an easy group which did not comprise of top contenders who are slated to win the Champions League. Liverpool fixtures in Group E did not provide worthy challengers that deserve an elite club. They were, therefore, able to create countless opportunities which they took advantage of. In the last 6 matches they have scored 23 goals which explains the quality of players they were facing all along. Find the top

The big tests are in the last 16

In the last 16, it is a tough one for Liverpool as no team can afford to make mistakes and remain in the title race. It is the elimination stage where there are no groups. Teams like Liverpool will need to play at home and away where the aggregate of the results will determine the winner. The other team will be automatically eliminated.

The runners-up in other groups are tough

The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus all finished as runners up. Real Madrid are the defending champions in the UEFA Champions League, while Juventus appeared in the finals of the last Champions League. Bayern Munich are former Champions in the same league. Liverpool could be matched with any of the above elite teams which means that they have prepare thoroughly in order to come on top.

However, Jürgen Klopp is very optimistic of his men. He says that the level of confidence and style of play they have adopted so far could get them far. It will all depend on whether they will maintain the high performance, in the last 16 matchups. They have, however, not been well-tested in terms of facing the big teams. With Coutinho leading the way for the Liverpool football club, fans can only remain optimistic that they will get the job done.
