Liverpool Put On High Alert As £65,000-a-week Klopp Target Is Dropped From First-team

Wembley was the venue where Harry Kane broke the record for the most number of goals scored in a calendar year when Spurs hammered Southampton 5-2 but there was more interesting news brewing as one of the top players for the away side was dropped for the game.

Virgil van Dijk, who has been linked with us since the start of the season, did not feature in the match against the London side and it is rumoured that he will be leaving the south coast side. Liverpool are leading the chase.

A report from Football.London claims that Manchester City are interested in the 26-year-old Dutch defender as well, as they look to add some quality and depth to their defence.

Liverpool, on their part, need quality, as the side have struggled to remain error-free at the back. Joel Matip is the only good defender in our ranks and the club needs a world-class defender in the team. Van Dijk is seen as one of the best defenders in the league.

Van Dijk would add a lot of quality to any team he signs for and it will be important for us to get him. We need someone who can be a leader at the back and that is something the Dutchman is known for.

The former Celtic man would also be able to pass the ball around from the back, another requirement from our central defenders and maybe, he can also communicate better with the keeper and help reduce the mistakes at the back.

The worry is that Southampton may be stubborn and that they might not sell him to us. They know that City are circling around Van Dijk and if the Manchester team decide to go all out for a player, we will not be able to match their pay package or even their transfer fee.

We can, however, provide Van Dijk with a starting XI spot, which is not the case for City and hopefully, that will be enough for the Dutchman to become a Red.
