Liverpool Set To Complete Second January Signing In Coming Days – German Reports

Liverpool recently announced the signing Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton and that acted as a late Christmas present for most of us. However, Jurgen Klopp could be looking to give us a late New Year gift in the form of Leon Goretzka.

are to be believed, the Reds have stolen a march on signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, who is being widely chased by a lot of clubs. For all right reasons, he has established himself as a key figure in the middle for Schalke but he could be seeking pastures anew with his contract set to expire next summer.

The 22-year-old has chipped in with 4 goals in the Bundesliga this season and has been consistently brilliant for the club ever since he joined in 2013. Having represented Germany at all youth levels, the player will be looking to solidify his position in the senior squad ahead of the World Cup next year and moving to Liverpool could boost his chances of doing just that.

Having embarked on his football career with Werner SV 06 Bochum, Goretzka is a hard-working footballer and can develop quite well under Klopp’s watchful eyes. The manager is also understood to have sealed a deal for RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita and the player is expected to arrive next summer. If he manages to acquire Goretzka’s signature as well, it will act as a giant leap towards putting together a well-rounded team.

Boasting of excellent ball control with an eye for accurate passes, Goretzka could prove to be a massive upgrade for Liverpool’s midfield. The young German also boasts of brilliant heading skills, which can help if he were to partner Keita in the midfield since the Leipzig midfielder is a bit weak in the air.

However, it will be interesting to see how all this affects Emre Can. The fact that Klopp is so keen on purchasing central midfielders could point to the fact that the 23-year-old could be edging closer to an exit from Anfield. His future has been shrouded with uncertainty for a while but this could confirm the same. Regardless, a move for Goretzka could significantly strengthen Liverpool’s performances on the whole.
