Liverpool news: Klopp wants to tie down the work-horse of famed trio to a new contract

If there is one player that best exemplifies what the new Liverpool attack is under Jurgen Klopp, that has to be Roberto Firmino.

The former Hoffenheim attacker has made the No.9 role his own but he does a lot more than just score and set up players. The Brazilian works his socks off for us and it should come as no surprise that after another stellar season for Liverpool, the 26-year-old is up for a contract extension.

The German was quoted by the Guardian as to how important the attacker has become in our playing style now.

“It is very important for both sides,” the Liverpool manager said. “Everything we are doing, the way we play, the way we give him the opportunity constantly to play, he deserves that. He deserves that because his work rate is outstanding but it helped him a lot to step up.

“He became a different player here. Other teams can say: ‘Hmmm, he’s really good’ but it is not sure they will play the same way and use him as a nine or a 10 or they’ll use him out on the wings. It is never sure but it is important to keep these players who are at a good age and when there is still space for improvement.”

“Roberto was always a dominant player; that’s why he drops into midfield and gets the ball and loses a few balls where you have a heart attack, but then he wins it back and starts an attack. It is not the biggest difference but there are a few decisive differences in the last few games.”

Firmino On Fire For Liverpool

The Brazilian has been brilliant for us, once again, scoring 21 times in all competitions this season. Apart from the impressive goal tally, the 26-year-old also has 10 assists to his name and with the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also being just as prolific in front of goal, we have one of the best attacks in world football.

Klopp is right in trying to tie down the mercurial Brazilian as we would want to be in a position of strength should some other club try to lure Firmino away. For his part, Firmino has stated that he wants to stay at Liverpool for a number of years and hopefully, everyone can celebrate his goals, assists, celebrations and a few trophies for the next few years.
