As per a recent report from The Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard is a top contender to take over as Rangers boss next season. Since Pedro Caixinha’s sacking about 7 months ago, Graeme Murty was appointed as the temporary manager. However, he has failed to impress and the Gers are currently sitting 10 points behind league leaders Celtic.

This situation is unlikely to have tilted the scales in his favour and The Scottish Sun claims Gerrard could be the one to replace him this summer.

The Liverpool legend has been managing the club’s U18 side and should he choose to accept the job, it will undeniably be a big break for him.

Over the years, Gerrard has been an iconic figure for us at Anfield and his contributions will never be forgotten. If he does choose to join Rangers, he will have to come face-to-face against former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic manager is on the verge of guiding the team to a scintillating title win and it will be interesting to see how things play out if Gerrard accepts the offer. However, doing so would mean leaving Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp expressed how he felt about the news, at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Stoke City.

As reported by Liverpool’s official website, Klopp said:

“I’m not worried because, if – and a big if – something would happen, it was always clear that Steven is, was and will always be a Liverpool legend,” said Klopp.

“So whatever he wants to do, we support him in that. It’s as easy as that. But there is no decision. I don’t even know what the situation is at the moment. But nobody told me there is any decision.

“I can imagine that clubs are interested in signing Stevie – [he has] massive experience as a player and now a year as a manager. I would think about him as well if I owned a club. That’s pretty normal.

“One day it will happen, either here or somewhere else. It’s his decision – he’s old enough to decide things like that. The only thing I can say is that we would support him in all directions.”

He also went on to talk about how he has enjoyed a brilliant relationship with Gerrard at Liverpool. Watching Gerrard leave the club in the truest sense of the term will be hard for a lot of supporters but if this is the beginning of something wonderful for him, I think it would be a great move.
