Klopp regrets key Liverpool star’s terrible injury, says that the timing is unfortunate

The 5-2 win against AS Roma was the cause of a lot of celebrations across Merseyside but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s dreadful knee injury was a cause for concern.

While tackling Roma’s Aleksandar Kolarov, the Ox hurt himself and was in a lot of pain. Ultimately, he had to be stretchered off the field and the timing of this injury is rather unfortunate.

Jurgen Klopp expressed his shock at the entire situation while speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Stoke City.

As reported by Liverpool’s official website, Klopp said:

“I have no words for that. I cannot believe that this wonderful player, person, boy, guy, whatever, in such a positive situation, helping the team, having a clear, clear challenge, something like this happens. I really have no words for that.

“When I saw it back I thought ‘wow’. It’s just a shame, it’s not fair, to be honest. But that’s how life is sometimes and, how do we say it, if you get a lemon you make lemonade of it and that’s what we have to do.

“That’s what Alex is doing, he’s an absolute positive person and he will be back. I told him already that we will wait for him like a good wife, when a man is in prison.”

The same report has also confirmed that preliminary scans have not yielded positive results and that the injury will keep him out of playing in the highly-anticipated FIFA World Cup as well.

When Ox moved to Anfield, he struggled to make an impact initially but the form he has displayed in recent times has really been fantastic.

His displays in the midfield area were fast, nippy, creative and there is no doubt that the team, along with the numerous fans, will miss him.

After he was stretchered off during the game against Roma, Georginio Wijnaldum came on to replace him. With a flurry of transfer activities bound to happen in the summer, it will be a challenge for Ox to break into the first-team once he fully recovers.
