Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne have been the standout performers in the Premier League this season and they have been lauded time and again for their contributions to their respective teams.

On one hand, Salah has been smashing goals for us week in and week out whereas De Bruyne became the fastest midfielder to be involved in 50 goals in the Premier League.

Interestingly, both these players belonged to Chelsea at one point in time and both of them were shipped out from the club.

To make matters worse, their scintillating form has coincided with the Blues’ sloppy performances this season, raising talks of how the club had made a huge mistake in letting them go.

Mohamed Salah

Although current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was in charge of Chelsea back then, the Portuguese gaffer has claimed that he had nothing to do with the transfer of Salah.

Mourinho told ESPN Brazil that it was the club’s decision and not his.

“It is the first time that I am going to say this, but it is another injustice that has been talked about me. People say that I was the one that sold Salah and it is the opposite. I bought Salah,” said Mourinho.

However, the Portuguese went on to add that Salah had arrived at Stamford Bridge at a time when he was not mentally or culturally ready to flourish in the Premier League.

“At Fiorentina he started to mature. Chelsea decided to sell him, OK? And when they say that I was the one that sold him it is a lie. I bought him. I agreed to send him on loan, I thought it was necessary, I thought that Chelsea had wingers… Some of them are still there like Willian, [Eden] Hazard and all those players already in a different level.

“So the decision to send him on loan was a decision we made collectively, but after that, the decision to sell him and to use that money to buy another player wasn’t mine,” concluded Mourinho.

Well, regardless of whose decision it was back then, it has now worked to our benefit. We have Salah at Anfield right now and that’s all that matters. Let’s just hope he stays with us for the seasons to come.
