According to BBC, Rangers are confident of appointing former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard as their manager in the next few days.
Gerrard is currently the manager of Liverpool’s Under-18 team but will end his spell to take on the role in Glasgow. Taking charge of Rangers will pit him against his former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, who is currently at the helm of Celtic and is attempting back-to-back domestic trebles.
Graeme Murty has been in charge of Rangers since October following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha. Should Gerrard, who retired in 2016 after spending 19 years with Liverpool, take the job at Rangers, would replace Murty.
The former England international knocked back other approaches to join the youth set-up at Anfield, including the chance to lead MK Dons. According to BBC
, Gerrard said at the time the offer from MK Dons had “come a bit too soon”.However, having gained valuable experience by coaching the Liverpool Under-18 team, Gerrard would love to step up and take the Rangers job in order to help the Scottish club challenge Celtic.
A move to Ibrox is tantalising and Gerrard must take it without second thoughts. With speculation about Rangers closing in on making Gerrard as their manager in the next couple of days, here is how Twitter reacted to the news.
