Sadio Mane has explained his deadly Liverpool partnership with fellow attackers Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Mane, Salah and Firmino have forged a lethal attacking trio at Liverpool, ripping apart defences of some of Europe’s biggest clubs this season. While Salah leads the scoring chart with 43 goals across all competitions this season, Mane and Firmino have also contributed with plentiful goals and assists.
The devastating trio has so far scored 87 goals this campaign and while they remain hungry for more, Mane explains that their form all season is down to their friendship and bonding.
“I think the secret is that we are close friends with each other,” Mane was quoted by the Daily Mirror.
“I always love to play alongside these great players because we understand each other so well. We try to move for each other. It gets easier for us the more we train together and the more we know each other.
“It is great fun to have players like Mo and Roberto near me. It is always enjoyable. I am always happy to give an assist to my friend.
“You can see it on the pitch. I always look for Mo and Roberto and they always look for me. I think this makes us a better team.”
Mane, Salah and Firmino gave a testament to their class when they all combined to destroy AS Roma 5-2 in the Champions League semi-final first leg tie at Anfield. Salah clearly remains the main threat, while Mane and Firmino continue delivering the goods alongside him.
The trio has been paramount to Liverpool this season. Following the departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January, Mane stepped up and has been electric in the last two months.
Under Klopp, the attackers have thrived massively as they have brought a sense of unpredictability going forward. So far, the troika has performed immensely, combining to great effect and crushing teams at will. However, it will be important for Klopp’s attackers to deliver in the second leg at Roma after failing to score on Saturday against Stoke City.
The Reds already have a foot in the Champions League final but cannot underestimate the Italian club. There is still a whole game to play and our boys need to be focused on winning at Rome.
