Gareth Southgate announced his 23-man England squad yesterday and as expected, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson were both included.
It does come as a blow that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained an injury as he stood a solid chance of being included as well. Even Adam Lallana was not included but that can be chalked down due to a prolonged injury and lack of form.
However, it is delightful to learn that Alexander-Arnold will take part in his very first World Cup for England. The youngster was understandably overjoyed and he took to Twitter to express his feelings.
Dreamt of going to a World Cup since I was a kid. Today that dream come true, an honour to represent the 3 Lions this summer! 🦁 @England pic.twitter.com/e6c8agtVar

Indeed, it is a great opportunity for Alexander-Arnold to prove himself on the big stage. The World Cup is an event closely followed by scores of football fans across the world and it has the potential to make or break a player’s career.
More often than not, youngsters like Alexander-Arnold thrive under the glare of the harsh spotlight and let’s hope he is able to reach great heights in Russia.
In addition to teammate Henderson’s presence, the youngster will also get to learn from some of the best names in English football right now.
Henderson too seemed to be quite pleased with the opportunity. He has been in and out of injuries in recent times and yet he managed to play a pivotal role for Liverpool on a lot of occasions.
Let’s hope our players are able to do England proud in Russia next month!
