Liverpool turn attention to Serie A keeper as Alisson’s alternative – report

Thomas Strakosha

Liverpool could set their eyes on a talented keeper from the Serie A next as hopes of signing Alisson seem to fade. The Guardian reports that the Reds are interested in Thomas Strakosha from Lazio after the Albanian helped the Serie A side finish 5th last season, just missing out on the Champions League spots.

The 23-year-old is expected to cost half of what we might have had to pay for Alisson or even Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, and Marko Grujic could even play a huge role in the transfer.

The report goes on to say that Lazio are interested in the Serbian midfielder, who was on loan at Cardiff last season. Grujic helped Cardiff reach the Premier League this time around and if we add the player to the deal, Strakosha would cost lesser.

Given that we aren’t in pole position to sign either Oblak or Alisson at the moment, it makes sense for Klopp to find an alternative to the pair.

While we haven’t heard of Strakosha a lot, Lazio did concede 49 goals in the league last season in just 38 games. That does not make for a great reading, to be honest, and the Albanian seems to be a bigger risk than some of the other players we have been linked with such as Jack Butland

or even Nick Pope, as the pair know what it is like to play in the Premier League.

The worst thing we can do is act rashly and bring in a keeper when we are not totally sure about their ability. Hopefully, Jurgen Klopp and company make the right decision and bring in the right player to guard the goal.
