Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign Colombian defender to bolster the Liverpool defence

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to bolster the Liverpool defence by signing Barcelona’s Yerry Mina according to Tutto Mercato Web (h/t The Express).

The report claims that the Catalan club are willing to let Mina go on loan and Liverpool could be interested in bringing the Colombian to Anfield next season.

Mina has played two matches for Colombia in the World Cup and has bagged a couple of crucial goals too. The South American side will be facing England in the round of 16 and Mina will be looking to knock the Three Lions out.

While his exploits in the World Cup are praiseworthy, the defender has not spent a lot of time on the pitch for Barcelona. The 23-year-old centre-back only played six games for Barcelona last season and has just four starts to his name.

There are a number of clubs who are interested in the young Colombian, with La Liga sides Villarreal, Celta Vigo, Valencia and Sevilla all looking to sign Mina up.

While Mina does need more first-team action next season for his development, the problem would be that moving to Anfield would not guarantee a starting place.

We already have Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren, who would be our first choice pairing next season, and the likes of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan would cover the pair.

Mina might be an exciting talent who will develop into a quality defender in the coming years but expecting first-team football at Anfield right now is not advisable for him.

Of course, he could be decent backup to have and should he impress, we might want to sign him on a full-time basis.
