James Milner was one of our stars in the 4-0 win over West Ham on the opening day of the Premier League season and the veteran believes that the team will get better, thanks to the players we have brought in.
Liverpool signed four players in the summer window and Milner was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying,
“But I think we’ll improve again given the players we’ve brought in because when you’ve got so much competition for places you’re forced to play well. If you don’t, someone else will take your spot.”
The 32-year-old knows what it feels like to be a Premier League winner, having achieved that with Manchester City. However, he feels that Liverpool have progressed under Jurgen Klopp and are ready to win a title soon.
“The team has evolved and we’re moving forward all the time but I think it is time we got over the line and won a piece of silverware. That’s putting pressure on ourselves but that is what’s expected at this football club.”
Milner did allude to the fact that Liverpool have been close to winning a crown under Klopp. However, the Reds have lost all three finals under the German. The Englishman also believed that winning the first trophy is always tough.
“It’s something that we are more than ready to do, but getting that first trophy is always the hardest. If we can get that first trophy it will hopefully set up better things to come.”
Liverpool do have a great squad this season and if we play at the same level as we did against West Ham, we will win a trophy this season.
