Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have played all four of our games this season and the pair are also part of the England squad for the international break.
The duo competed for the right-back spot last season but this time, Gomez has played as a central defender while Alexander-Arnold has been Liverpool’s right-back.
The Liverpool FC website quoted Gomez as he opened up about the relationship between the pair and how the competition between the pair took them to another level.
“He’s a top player. He has obviously got a joke of a delivery and it’s great playing alongside him.
“Last year, we were both playing full-back and I think we pushed each other a lot. It was good that we both got the opportunity to get the games we did.”
The central defender further added that Alexander-Arnold wants to win always and Gomez knows the strengths of his Liverpool
teammate.“This year, I’m playing alongside him – I’ve played in the centre and he’s on the right, we have a good relationship. I know his strengths and how good he is going forward and defensively. You think he’s quiet but he wants to win all the time.”
The pair could be in our starting XI for a number of years to come as they are young and can get only better with games under their belt.

Gomez has been one of the best players this season and his England call-up is no mistake. The central defender is growing in stature, playing alongside Virgil van Dijk, and we should see him put up quality performances in the months to come.
