Fan rant of the day: Salah and Van Dijk might have injuries but Liverpool should deal with it

Liverpool return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to Huddersfield. The Reds are tied at the top of the table with 20 points but could be without a couple of stars.

Mohamed Salah picked up an injury after scoring in a 4-1 win for Egypt while Virgil van Dijk is set to return (h/t Liverpool Echo) to Liverpool after the Netherlands’ 3-0 win over Germany.

While we learn about how long the pair could be out for the Reds, the injuries could not have come at a better time for Liverpool.

Salah has been struggling to perform for the Reds this season with just three goals from 11 games. The Egyptian star should be given time to rest and recuperate as he barely has had time off since the start of last season.

Xherdan Shaqiri is the weapon we have been keeping out of the side for a while, and this is the perfect time to release the Swiss on our upcoming opponents.

Van Dijk is possibly the best defender in the Premier League, and his absence from the team would have been a huge miss, had it not been for the rise of Joe Gomez.

The English youngster has been excellent since the start of the season and with Dejan Lovren fit again, a pairing of the Croatian and the Englishman isn’t the worst option for us.

Lovren started our 0-0 draw against Manchester City and barring that tackle on Sergio Aguero in the early moments of the game, the central defender looked great.

Van Dijk has been nursing a rib injury for a while and this is the ideal time for him to rest as we don’t have the toughest games in the coming weeks.

Our next three games are against Huddersfield, Red Star Belgrade and Cardiff City. Even if we don’t play our best XI, we should have enough quality to beat the trio of sides.

Jurgen Klopp spent huge in the transfer window this season to add more quality to the team and if we cannot rest some of our players in the coming games, our spending would be considered futile.

The Reds do have a tough clash against Arsenal on 3 November but we have easy games against Red Star and Fulham post that.

Klopp hasn’t chopped and changed much this season but he needs to as we need to keep the rest of the players fresh.

Even if Salah and Van Dijk are declared fit for the game against Huddersfield, the gaffer should think about resting one of the two.

The season is long and filled with bumps, but we have the squad depth to keep our players fresh till the end of the campaign.
