Jurgen Klopp happy with start but wants more from Liverpool after Huddersfield win

Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Liverpool can improve, even after a great start to the season. The Reds beat Huddersfield thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah but were far from their best.

The win kept Liverpool and Manchester City tied on 23 points at the top of the Premier League after nine games.

Klopp was quoted by Sky Sports as saying:

“The basis we have created so far is brilliant – 23 points.

“I don’t think I (have) had that before after nine games. And still space for improvement – good as well. So let’s get home and work on improving.”

The German claimed that this was the first time his team was winning “average” matches. The former Borussia Dortmund manager added that there were different ways to win football games, and the only way to win trophies was to beat the opposition.

Klopp also praised the opposition for making it tough for Liverpool. Huddersfield hit the post in the first half and had their chances to score, which they did not take.

The Terriers even had a handball shout turned down but our manager accepted that we had some luck on our side.

“You don’t want to use the post to defend, to be honest. If it happens you take it, but it’s not defending, it’s lucky.

“Then with the handball, another penalty, maybe they would have missed. You need luck to only concede three goals (in nine league games), and we have sometimes needed it.”

The Reds have conceded just three goals from nine Premier League games. Our defensive solidity seems to have cost us a bit of fluency in our attack. Nevertheless, this is still an excellent start to the season and it is only a matter of time before we start smashing the goals in.
