“You just have to stay close” – Former Premier League winner speaks about Liverpool’s race with Manchester City

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Liverpool have to keep the pressure on Manchester City in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s men have been exceptional this season with just two draws this season compared to our three.

However, they have looked much better in the attacking third and have swatted teams away for fun. The Reds are just a couple of points behind the Cityzens, as Neville spoke on his Sky Sports podcast (h/t Express

“Liverpool have to just stay really close – there have been times where I was part of teams where we were chasing and we were hunting down sides.

“You just have to stay on the shoulder and stay close.”

The English defender claimed this unnerves teams but teams can often expect other sides to lose points.

“When you don’t go away, some teams will think ‘I expect them to drop points’.

“There’s a feeling also when you are busting a gut and you’re in front and when we’ve been hunted down and I expected teams to drop points.”

Neville further claimed that City should not feel the same way yet, and Liverpool have to stick with the Manchester club till February or March.

However, the Sky Sports pundit added this would be a little difficult given how well City have been playing this season.

City have been playing on another level but they have lost one game this season. Lyon pulled off an incredible win at the Etihad in the Champions League, so there is hope for the Reds.

Liverpool also have to play City away, and hopefully, we can pick up a huge win over the Manchester club then.
