The Express claims that Alberto Moreno is “surplus to requirements” at Liverpool and a number of clubs have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old defender.

The Spaniard has just one Premier League and one League Cup start to his name this season, and Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta spoke with L’Equipe (h/t Express) about signing the former Sevilla man.

“I know him very well from his time at Sevilla.

“Normally, it’s not our market, then there may be circumstances that open up possibilities.

“It’s interesting, but it’s also interesting for Sevilla, who are looking for a left-back.”

Moreno will be out of contract at the end of the season and our last chance of making some money out of the deal would be to sell him in the winter window.

Should we sell the Spaniard, the Reds won’t have a qualified senior left-back to cover Andy Robertson. We have a host of midfielders who can play in that position such as James Milner. Fabinho also can play as a full-back and has experience playing as a right-back from earlier in his career.

Moreno has always been a fine professional for the Reds but it just hasn’t worked out for him always. The Spaniard’s mistakes were unforgiving during his early years at the club.

Robertson has been an excellent signing for the Reds and Moreno will find it hard to start games as long as the Scot continues to impress.
