Liverpool made it into the knockout rounds of the Champions League with a commanding yet nervy 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield.
The Reds knew this scoreline would see them pip the Italians to second spot, at least, in the group. However, a goal for the Serie A side would mean we would have to win by a two-goal margin.
Mohamed Salah got the only goal of the game, but we were wasteful in the final third. Sadio Mane should have scored a hat-trick, which would have put the Italians out of the tie completely.
The Senegalese star’s misses almost cost us as Arkadiusz Milik found himself free in stoppage time with the ball at his feet, six yards from goal.
The Napoli striker seemed destined to score, and break Liverpool hearts, but Alisson quickly rushed off his line and blocked the powerful shot.
The Liverpool keeper celebrated with the rest of the team after the final whistle, but the Reds were inches away from a painful Champions League elimination.
The Brazilian was imperious for us at the back with his composure, and his passing was on point too. Jurgen Klopp certainly got one of the best keepers in the world, and the Liverpool fans were grateful for the former AS Roma star’s contributions in the win.
