Former Liverpool players Michael Owen and Jason McAteer were involved in a bit of a scuffle during a Star Sixes’ game.

The Republic of Ireland faced England, where the former Liverpool pair clashed during the final minutes of the game.

McAteer retaliated to a kick from Owen but the referees missed it and sent the Irishman off while Owen was let off with a yellow card.

The Irishman’s red card was rescinded later and he even played down the incident (h/t Metro):

“Me and Michael Owen has a scuffle and he launched me then I softly kicked him up the hoop.

“The piss poor officials decided they didn’t see his challenge but still give him a yellow card? I got a red! Simples.”

The Englishman does have a history with Liverpool which isn’t that great. The Englishman was possibly the best striker we had during the 90s and was a huge talent but he decided to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid in the same year we won the Champions League.

If that was not bad enough, the Englishman has played for Newcastle United and also our bitter rivals Manchester United, and won a Premier League title with them.

Owen and McAteer work as pundits too and it was a bit of a surprise that the former Reds had a bit of a kick at each other.

Several fans, however, loved the scuffle and they mostly were on the Irishman’s corner.
