Liverpool to play special game in April against Ireland for injured fan

Liverpool players celebrate against Arsenal

Liverpool will play a special Legends game at Dublin against an Ireland side in aid of Sean Cox, according to the Daily Mail.

Cox, a Reds fan, was seriously injured in an attack by Roma fans last season during the Champions League

, and the report claims former Reds stars will face an Ireland Legends team on 12 April at the Aviva Stadium.

The funds collected from the game will be donated to the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust, and Cox’s wife, Martina, also shared a few words regarding the game (h/t Daily Mail

):

“Sean has been supporting Liverpool all of his life and to have this match in Dublin in his name will be a special day.

“It’s going to be a very long and slow process for Sean’s recovery and I’d like to thank the overwhelming support that Liverpool fans have shown.”

Martina further thanked the club and players, past and present, for the support provided to the family. The report adds that a bucket collection also took place before the Cardiff City game from earlier in the season, match-funded by the LFC Foundation, which raised £59,000.

Dejan Lovren celebrates for Liverpool

It has been a tough time for the family ever since the attack last season and it is commendable that the club is doing all it can to help Cox recover.
