“Back on track to remove those L’s”, “We keep going” – Liverpool stars react to hard-fought 1-0 win over Brighton

Mohamed Salah scores against Brighton

Liverpool weren’t fantastic at the Amex but the most important thing was picking up three points after a couple of defeats.

Manchester City ended our unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign and Wolves dumped a much-changed Liverpool side in the FA Cup recently.

Jurgen Klopp effectively played his strongest available XI against Brighton and it was a Mohamed Salah penalty that got us the 1-0 win.

The Egyptian was fouled by Pascal Gross in the second half and there was a lot of praise for the forward from his own teammates too.

Xherdan Shaqiri started too, but the Swiss couldn’t score past the Seagulls despite having a great chance in the first half.

Liverpool’s midfield consisted of Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson. The pair didn’t create many chances but dominated possession and the Dutchman was happy to get back to winning ways.

A player that deserves a lot of credit for his performance was Fabinho. The Brazilian started as a centre-back and was rarely troubled by the Brighton attack.

Of course, things are a little easy when you play alongside Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch defender proved once again as to why he is one of the best in the world, with a fantastic performance.

Brighton did have one or two quality shots at Alisson but our world-class keeper ensured yet another clean sheet in the Premier League.

Liverpool lead the Premier League by seven points but Manchester City could cut that gap down to four if they win on Monday.

It is important for us to keep picking up wins even if they are ugly 1-0 results. We have a good lead over Manchester City and with every win, the pressure is bound to pile up on the Cityzens, which would be brilliant from our perspective.
