Sport (h/t Mirror) reports that Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno could sign a “shock” two-year deal with Catalan giants Barcelona.
The 26-year-old Spaniard is a free agent at the end of the season. The defender recently travelled to Rome and was expected to sign a deal with Lazio (h/t Mirror
).The former Sevilla defender was also pictured with former Liverpool and current Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva in the Italian capital.
The report adds that Barcelona will sign the Spaniard up as cover for first-choice left-back Jordi Alba.
Moreno’s game time in the first XI has been severely reduced since Andy Robertson signed from Hull City last season.
The Scot is possibly the best left-back in the Premier League and is the captain of the Scotland national side too.
Moreno has made just two starts in the Premier League this season, and it will be interesting to see which club he ultimately signs for come the end of the season.
The Spaniard’s defensive ability is in question, however, he is a decent player when it comes to attacking in the final third.
Moreno leaving would also reduce our options for Robertson’s cover. James Milner could play as the left-back but it would be better to play him in the midfield.
It will be interesting to see our plans with rising talent Adam Lewis, who plays as the left-back for our U23 side too.
