Latest Liverpool news: Mario Gotze opens up about speaking with Jurgen Klopp regularly

Mario Gotze has spoken about his contact with Jurgen Klopp. The pair were together at Borussia Dortmund where they picked up two Bundesliga crowns.

Gotze then left Dortmund to join Bayern Munich before returning to the Yellow and Blacks. The 26-year-old won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and revealed to Bild that he is still in contact with Klopp (h/t Sky Sports

“He [Klopp] knew that I wanted to leave Bayern. Of course, we talked. He knows me very well and that I am always looking for new challenges.

“I often speak to Klopp, He brought me to the first team when I was 17 and he made it all possible. We never stopped talking.”

Gotze was one of the best players in the world but his move to Bayern didn’t work out. The return to Dortmund has been promising and he has done pretty well this season.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has four goals and six assists from 19 Bundesliga games in this campaign.

A tight Premier League race

Gotze also played under Pep Guardiola while the Spaniard was managing Bayern. The German claimed he was “grateful” to having worked under both managers, and found the Premier League title race “exciting”.

Dortmund and Bayern are also jostling for the top spot in the Bundesliga with Gotze’s team two points ahead of the Bavarians.

Manchester City reclaimed top spot in the Premier League with an easy win over Cardiff City.
