Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with a comfortable 5-0 win over Huddersfield at Anfield.
The Reds made a couple of changes to the starting XI with Daniel Sturridge and Dejan Lovren coming into the team.
It didn’t take long for the Reds to score as Naby Keita found the back of the net after just 15 seconds. This was our fastest goal in Premier League history.
Huddersfield came alive after conceding but after weathering a bit of a storm, we made it 2-0 thanks to Sadio Mane’s header from an Andy Robertson cross.
The other full-back got into the act late in the first half as his ball was delightfully chipped into the net by Mohamed Salah.
The Reds started the second half in similar fashion and Mane
got his brace with a fantastic header as well. There were chances for others to score as Daniel Sturridge was called offside and Mane hit the post.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain saw an emotional return to the team and almost scored when he was brought on as a sub.
The Reds made it five as Robertson and Salah combined. The Egyptian took his Premier League tally to 21 for the season with Mane on 20.
Liverpool did their bit and will look forward to the Champions League tie against Barcelona, and hopefully, Manchester City fail to win against Burnley on Sunday.
The first half went by without any major problems and the Brazilian had to make a couple of quality saves in the second.
Alexander-Arnold was overshadowed by Robertson, but the English defender was great with some of his deliveries and got an assist too.
Joel Matip was rested with Lovren replacing the Cameroon defender. Lovren did a decent job at the back but had one or two scary moments as the Terriers looked to score in the first half.
Another great performance from Van Dijk at the back. The Dutch defender barely put a foot wrong and kept things calm.
Two assists for the Scot and a great night from Robbo. The Scot’s crossing was fantastic and he certainly deserves to be in the PFA Team of the Year thanks to stellar performances like this.
Wijnaldum was playing the deepest position in the midfield and did a decent job.
Keita took his chance well early and harried the Huddersfield team a lot. The Guinean tackled, pressed and had some shots on goal too as we are seeing the best of the midfielder.
The captain was given the role of the furthest midfielder and he did a fantastic job. The Englishman got an assist for one of Mane’s header and seemed to enjoy playing the attacking role.
Salah had a bit of a slow start to the game but once his first went in, we saw the Egyptian from last season. His second goal was brilliantly worked and he should have gotten a third too.
The Englishman was played in place of Roberto Firmino, who had a bit of a muscle problem. The forward found the back of the net in the second half, but was rightly called offside.
Sadio Mane – 8/10
Mane did a lot of running and tracking back and his two headers were brilliant. It was a shame he could not complete his hat-trick as he hit the post in the second half.
The Swiss star had some great crosses in his cameo, and played a role in Salah’s second of the night.
It was just great seeing the Englishman return to the team. He had a great chance to score but could not get it past the Huddersfield keeper.
Replaced Trent down the right late on in the game.
