James Pearce confirms Liverpool have no interest in signing 19-year-old ace starring for current club

Liverpool FC transfer news: James Pearce confirms Liverpool have no interest in signing Matthijs de Ligt

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo confirmed that the Reds have no interest in signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds have been linked with the Ajax captain and some outlets suggested that we are in talks with the Dutch defender.

Matthijs de Ligt

However, the Liverpool Echo claims that Jurgen Klopp is happy with his centre-backs and isn’t looking at signing players for this position.

Joel Matip has done a wonderful job in the second half of the season while Joe Gomez had a great first half before picking up a fracture.

Virgil van Dijk was named as the Player of the Season, and the report adds that Klopp expects Gomez to improve in the coming campaign.

Liverpool still looking for one or two players

The Liverpool Echo claims that Barcelona are leading the race for De Ligt, with Manchester City and Manchester United also keeping tabs on the 19-year-old Ajax captain.

Liverpool are looking at a full-back to provide cover while they want a versatile attacker too, according to the report.

Alberto Moreno in training

Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno are expected to leave the Reds when their contracts expire in a month (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Liverpool’s defence is great and having De Ligt would have been incredible for several years to come.

However, the pressing issue is finding cover for both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson at the back.

Moreno barely played for us last season while we need another attacker despite Divock Origi’s emergence.

Sturridge scored a few important goals for us but another attacker who can play out wide or as a striker would provide us with a lot of options in the final third.
