Werder Bremen are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic on a two-year loan deal, according to Mein Werder (h/t Liverpool Echo).
Grujic was on loan at Hertha Berlin this season and impressed for the Bundesliga side. The 23-year-old had his injury problems and only played 23 games in all competitions for the club.
However, the Serbian was one of their best players this season and the report adds that Jurgen Klopp admires Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt.
The report further claims that Klopp believes Grujic could develop further at Bremen, though negotiations between the two clubs haven’t been straightforward.
The Serbian also spent a part of the previous season on loan at Cardiff and helped them achieve promotion before his trip to Germany.
Werder finished eighth in the Bundesliga and it will be interesting to see what decision Liverpool take regarding Grujic.
Sending him out on a two-year loan spell doesn’t make a lot of sense given that the Serbian would be 25 when he completes the spell.
He would be in his prime but it is difficult seeing him break into the team after he is 25. The Reds can sell him in the summer and make a decent sum given his stock is high at the moment.
The Serbian would not get regular starts at Anfield should he remain at the club this season, however, he could be a decent squad player in some of the cup competitions.
