German forward Max Kruse has confirmed that Liverpool offered him a deal but that he decided to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The 31-year-old became a free agent after his contract with Werder Bremen expired in the summer.
The forward was great for the Bundesliga side, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists last season.
The Liverpool Echo adds that Jurgen Klopp wasn’t looking to add Kruse to his ranks as Divock Origi signed a new deal with the Reds.
Rhian Brewster is also expected to play a part in the new season, however, Kruse told Bein Sports Turkey that he snubbed the Reds to move to Turkey (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“During the transfer period, I’ve received lots of offers and one of them was Liverpool.
“But I decided to join Fenerbahce because I believe I will be very happy there.
“I spoke with a lot of players during that period and I am happy about my decision.”
Signing Kruse would have reduced the chances of Brewster playing in the senior team next season.
Kruse is capable of playing out wide and would have provided cover for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah too.
Origi can do that job as well while Brewster is one of the brightest talents we have in the team.
The 19-year-old has had his injury problems in the past, and it will be interesting to see how he performs once the season starts.
Liverpool haven’t moved for any big names this summer but we already have a world-class first XI under Klopp.
