The Mirror reports that Liverpool will allow their existing redevelopment plans for Anfield to expire so that they can submit an upgraded plan for the stadium.
Anfield has already seen an expansion take place with the redevelopment of the Main Stand in 2016.
The report claims that the new plans will increase the capacity of the ground to 60,000, and the club will submit new plans when the older set expires next month.
The current capacity of the ground is 54,074, but the club is facing increased demand for tickets after their Champions League win and their league performance from last season.
The Reds narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City and lost just one game in the competition.
Liverpool’s COO Andy Hughes claimed that the feasibility studies have already taken place and the club will work with local residents to find the optimal solution for the redevelopment (h/t Mirror):
“We are committed to working with local residents, planning officials and others as we now focus on the detail behind any proposed redevelopment for Anfield Road.
“Throughout this process we have been clear that our objective is to find the best possible solution for Anfield Road and that remains the case.”
Most of our rivals have plush new stadiums to play in, with Tottenham being the latest one. But moving away from Anfield would take the charm away from the club.
It is the right decision to keep working on the stadium and ensure the heritage is not lost by moving to a larger ground.
The Reds have been on the up under Jurgen Klopp ever since the German arrived, and it will be interesting to see how we progress this season after lifting the Champions League title last time out.
