Liverpool have announced that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is extending his stay after signing a new long-term deal.
The midfielder missed most of the previous season recovering from a knee injury but regained fitness towards the end of the campaign.
The Ox has looked a little rusty this season but had a great second half against Southampton last week.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined the Reds from Arsenal in 2017 and was growing into his role at the club before picking up a serious injury against AS Roma in the Champions League.
The former Gunner was pleased about signing a new deal and was hopeful of some great performances in the coming seasons (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):
“I feel like I missed out on a year, which I obviously did, so it’s really exciting for me to be able to sign.
“It’s something that I feel is an opportunity to give that year back and make up for lost time – and hopefully put in some good performances to make amends for not being around last year.”
The Ox added that he was happy to extend his stay at the club, and it will be interesting to see how he performs this season.
It is always difficult coming back from a major injury like Chamberlain did, and the midfielder still needs more time on the pitch. However, there have been some positive signs this season and we should see the Ox perform at his best soon.
The midfielder provides us with a different drive when compared to the others fighting for this position, and he could be a huge factor in our chase for trophies this season.
Many Liverpool fans were glad at the news of Oxlade-Chamberlain extending his Anfield stay, and here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
