The Liverpool Echo reports that star defender Virgil van Dijk has been left “bemused” by reports linking him with an increased pay of £200,000-a-week.
Van Dijk is possibly the best defender in the world but the Liverpool Echo adds that the 28-year-old has not pushed for a new deal from the club.
The Dutchman arrived at Anfield some 20 months ago and had signed a five–year contract with the Reds.
The report adds that Liverpool do not plan to start contract talks with the 28-year-old defender any time soon.
The Reds have extended the deals of most of their stars in the summer and it would make sense to tie-up Van Dijk on an improved deal after his performances for us.
However, it also makes sense for the Reds to take their time and possibly do the deal next season as Van Dijk has more than three years left on his current contract.
The Dutchman has never made any noises of wanting a better deal and has only spoken about playing football or getting things right on the pitch.
Van Dijk is another model professional at the club, and it will be interesting to see when he does sign a new deal with the Reds.
