John Achterberg provides update on Alisson but doesn’t share return date

Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach John Achterberg provided an update on Alisson’s rehabilitation after his calf injury.

The Brazilian picked up the problem in the win over Norwich City on the opening day of the season and had to be replaced by Adrian.

The Spanish keeper has done a decent job since taking over the goalkeeping spot, however, Alisson is much better than Adrian

The coach told LiverpoolFC.com that Alisson has started working in the gym and has taken up some training on the pitch:

“Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up.

“In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills.”

However, Achterberg declined to provide a return date for the Brazilian and added that the keeper would need more time to recover:

“He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress. It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.”

Adrian starting more games

The comments from Achterberg suggest that Adrian will remain in between the sticks for a while, and hopefully, he avoids making mistakes as he did against Chelsea and Southampton.

The Spaniard looked much better in our 3-0 win over Burnley and our next clash is against Newcastle on Saturday.

The former West Ham keeper is a good shot-stopper and seems confident when coming out to deal with crosses and corners.

The only aspect of the game that he needs to work on is his passing, and Achterberg confirmed that Adrian underwent extra training sessions during the international break.
