The Athletic (h/t Metro) reports that Liverpool have opened talks with James Milner over a contract extension at the club.
The English midfielder joined the Reds from Manchester City on a free in 2015 and is out of a contract at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old can speak with other clubs in January where he can sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs.
Milner has been one of the most consistent performers under Jurgen Klopp and the report claims that the German sees the midfielder as a valuable member of the team.
The 33-year-old was immense in our Champions League run last season and provided several assists for the team.
The report adds that Milner believes he can provide more to Liverpool and it is suggested that a solution will be found soon.
Milner should receive a 12-month extension on his current contract (h/t Metro), and it will be interesting to see if the Englishman signs the deal.
The Reds have consolidated their team after the Champions League win by handing new deals to most of their top players.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have all signed new deals recently, and it makes sense for Milner to do the same.
The Englishman’s experience is great for the youngsters in the team, and Milner is capable of playing in several positions.
