Erling Haaland a doubt for the Champions League clash against Liverpool
Liverpool host RB Salzburg in their second Champions League group stage game and the away side could be without one of their star players.
Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick on his debut in the competition against Genk and has been on fire for the Austrian side.
However, the 19-year-old missed Salzburg’s previous game against Austria Wien due to illness, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund also told Viasat that he wasn’t sure when the striker could return (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“The next two days are important. He is checked by a doctor every day.
“He’s sick, and we don’t quite know when he will be back. Hopefully over the next few days.”
Haaland is extremely talented and would have posed some trouble for Virgil van Dijk at the back.
The 19-year-old has been on the rise since last season, and it will be interesting to see if Salzburg can call him up for the huge clash on Wednesday.
Liverpool need to pick up a win
The Reds were unlucky to lose their previous European clash 2-0 at Napoli. Liverpool created some good chances and only went behind after a dubious penalty call.
However, the Reds need to kick-start their Champions League campaign, and a win over Salzburg is a requirement.
The Austrians were impressive in their clash against Genk and cannot be taken for granted.
