“Sorry for killing that story!” – Klopp dismisses rumours of Liverpool signing World Cup star

Jurgen Klopp refutes claims of Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed rumours of the club moving for PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

The Liverpool Echo adds that Mbappe has been linked with the Reds and Klopp was asked about the possibility of signing the Frenchman. Mbappe was PSG’s top scorer last season and helped them land the Ligue 1 title.

Klopp, however, dismissed suggestions we could sign the 20-year-old and claimed we don’t have the financial capability to sign him (h/t Liverpool Echo

):

“I don’t think there is a club in the world that can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG, that is how it is. And we are involved in that too.

“We cannot do it, it is as easy as that. OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him, what a player he is.

“But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance, sorry for killing that story!”

Liverpool already have three quality forwards in the first-team, with Mohamed Salah having won two Golden Boots. Sadio Mane shared that award with the Egyptian and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season.

Mbappe, for his part, has already lifted the World Cup with France and has scored 11 goals for PSG this season.

Liverpool’s big spends

Klopp suggested that we cannot afford to sign Mbappe but the Reds have spent big in the previous windows.

Alisson and Virgil van Dijk came for big sums while Fabinho and Naby Keita didn’t come on the cheap either. It will be interesting to see what our plans are in the summer.

Liverpool didn’t sign any first-team outfield players in the summer and it has worked out well so far. We lead the Premier League by six points ahead of our clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
