Liverpool have not lost in 232 games when going up by 2+ goals at Anfield

Liverpool produced an incredible display against Premier League champions Manchester City.

This was a top-of-the-table clash and the Reds opened up a nine-point lead after beating the Cityzens 3-1.

Fabinho launched a rocket in the sixth minute before Mohamed Salah headed home from a glorious Andy Robertson cross seven minutes later.

Sadio Mane made it 3-0 in the 51st minute before Bernardo Silva got a consolation with 10 minutes or so to go. This was a huge blow to City’s hopes of catching us. We head off to the international break eight points ahead of Leicester and Chelsea.

City lie fourth and even though they had chances after scoring the first goal, the Reds had history on their side.

Manchester City have a poor record at Anfield since 2013, but Liverpool haven’t lost a Premier League game at home when leading by more than two goals.

Out of the 232 matches we have played, the Reds have only drawn five of them and gone on to win 227.

A statement for the rest of the season

Our run over the past month or so has been extremely tough. We have faced Leicester, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and City, and have only dropped points against the Red Devils.

Jurgen Klopp’s team don’t know how to give up and picked up late wins against Aston Villa and Leicester. The international break gives us time to take a bit of a breather after the latest win.
