Bayer Leverkusen expect Liverpool to bid for Kai Havertz
German midfielder Kai Havertz is one of the brightest prospects in German football. The 20-year-old has continued to impress at Bayer Leverkusen.
According to Bild reporter Christian Falk, (h/t The Mirror), the German side are bracing themselves for an offer from Liverpool for the midfielder.
Havertz is expected to cost around £110million. This will comfortably eclipse Liverpool’s transfer record of £75million we paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
The report goes on to claim that Liverpool will face competition from Bayern Munich and an unnamed Spanish club for the midfielder.
With Adam Lallana in the final few months of his contract and James Milner not getting any younger, it makes sense for the Reds to pursue a player of Havertz’s age and potential. Just 20, if he develops as expected, he could secure the Liverpool midfield for the next decade.
With Gini Wijnaldum’s contract extension a topic of discussion, its worth noting that Jordan Henderson will also turn 30 this year. Replenishing the midfield will become a concern in a couple of seasons, thus making it apt for Liverpool to sign Havertz.
