Jurgen Klopp provides an update on Sadio Mane injury

Liverpool fans will breathe a sigh of relief as the injury to Sadio Mane isn’t as bad as initially expected.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the Senegalese winger will return after the winter break. Speaking ahead of the match against West Ham United, Klopp expects Mane to miss Liverpool’s next two matches against West Ham and Southampton. (h/t Liverpoolfc)

This will come as a great relief to both the manager and the fans with Champions League football set to return after the winter break.

Mane limped off against Wolverhampton Wanderers in what has been his first injury since 2018. It was initially feared to be a hamstring injury but has now been confirmed to be a muscle issue.

Mane is Liverpool’s joint-top scorer this season and has stepped up multiple times when needed. The winger has made 31 appearances for Liverpool this season and has registered 15 goals and seven assists.

Mane has been arguably the best player of Liverpool’s vaunted front three this season. His presence will be missed but the Reds should be able to defeat both West Ham and Southampton in the coming games.

Liverpool face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on 19th February. The return of Mane will add much-needed power against Atletico’s strong defence.
