“Immense every game”- Some Liverpool fans react as £20m player gets nominated for award

Twitter reacts to Jordan Henderson’s player of of the month nomination

Jordan Henderson is a player who divides opinion even among Liverpool fans. The Englishman joined Liverpool from Sunderland in a deal worth £20 million in 2011 and has been subject to ridicule and praise depending on where you choose to view it from.

It can be argued that Liverpool paid over the odds for the then 20-year-old and it has been used against him ever since to disparage his achievements.

The midfielder has come a long way since and is today one of the crucial cogs in Jurgen Klopp’s all-conquering Liverpool side. Henderson became just the fifth Liverpool captain to lift the UEFA Champions League/ European Cup and given the names on there, he is in illustrious company.

Henderson took over as Liverpool captain in 2015. Succeeding Steven Gerrard always meant being compared to the Liverpool legend and Henderson has felt the full brunt of it, unfairly so.

Jordan Henderson has been a dominant force in midfield of late

It is a testament to the player’s character that he has done justice to the armband and is an inspiration to the youngsters who will follow in his stead.

Henderson will never be a Gerrard, he isn’t the player who grabs the match by the scruff of the neck and produce individual moments of brilliance. Instead, he is the player who holds the fort allowing others to go get the limelight. The brighter the light, the weaker the shadow. Henderson is the shadow that allows the light around him to shine bright.

The 29-year-old has been nominated for the English Premier League player of the month for January. It’s a just reward for leading the club through what could have been a potentially damaging run of games and ensuring they come out on top every time.

Liverpool are five for five in the English Premier League in January and in no short reason to their captain. Henderson also scored his second goal of the season when he headed in from the corner at the Molineux.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also been nominated for the same award after he kept four clean sheets from five games in the month.

Liverpool fans took to Twitter to comment on the player’s nomination. We take a look at some of the tweets below.
