Liverpool could sell Xherdan Shaqiri and Dejan Lovren in the summer
Liverpool could sell both Xherdan Shaqiri and Dejan Lovren in the summer transfer window. Both the players have found playtime hard to come by and have found themselves out of favour at Anfield, according to Athletic (h/t Express).
Both Shaqiri and Lovren have featured intermittently for the Reds this season and have made just 9 and 13 appearances respectively. It can be argued that neither of them have been helped by injuries either.
Jurgen Klopp hasn’t made any promises regarding game time in spite of the Reds being 22 points clear at the top. Shaqiri was linked with a move to Roma in the January transfer window. However, Klopp dismissed any departures from the first-team at least until the summer.
The duo is likely to leave as Klopp looks to restructure his squad at the end of the season. Liverpool has made minimal transfers in the last three windows. Takumi Minamino was the only high-profile signing, with the club largely focussing on acquiring youth talents.
Micheal Edwards will be active in the summer this season. However, he could be in line for negotiating outgoings rather than incomings (h/t Express)
With Shaqiri and Lovren likely to leave, the Merseysiders will need to replace the departures. Liverpool’s options off the bench will play a crucial role next season considering the ill-timed happening of the Africa Cup of Nations. The Reds are likely to miss Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita at an important juncture in the season.

Shaqiri and Lovren have played their parts in some of Liverpool’s most memorable nights under Klopp. Lovren scored the winner in the comeback against Dortmund whereas Shaqiri stepped up for the Reds in the famous night against Barcelona. How Liverpool will cope in the summer transfer market remains to be seen.
