Andrew Robertson regrets his treatment of Lionel Messi at Anfield

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has revealed his regret at the disrespect he showed to Lionel Messi in the UEFA Champions League semifinals second leg at Anfield last season, according to the Daily Mail. (h/t Daily Star)

Early in the second half leg at Anfield, Robertson playfully ruffled the Argentine superstar’s hair as he went to down outside the Liverpool box. The action left Messi furious forcing Jordan Henderson to intervene.

The Liverpool left-back has now admitted to his regret over the incident also revealing that he does not like looking back at the incident.

With Liverpool having to come back from a three-goal deficit, not to mention having to do so without two of their vaunted front three, a special effort was required from the players. Robertson thinks the attitude of the players and the supporters helped create an atmosphere of inevitability around the stadium.

He went on to admit his respect to Messi and Barcelona. The smallest margins could make the difference in such games and Robertson hinted that the action may have prevented the best player in the world from performing to his best.
