Liverpool star Alisson Becker receives 2019 Gold Samba award at Melwood
According to a report by Liverpool’s official website, Alisson Becker has been presented with the prestigious 2019 Gold Samba award at Melwood. The award is usually presented to the best Brazilian player across Europe and the Liverpool star wrote history by becoming the first goalkeeper to win the honour.
Over the course of the last year, he has won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool in addition to the FIFA Club World Cup. He also played a pivotal role as Brazil lifted the Copa America title.
Interestingly enough, Alisson just about edged past Roberto Firmino, who won the award last year, as per the report. In the ongoing season, the Brazilian No. 1 has managed to maintain 12 clean sheets in all competitions so far. Although he was out of action for about two months, Alisson has shown no signs of slowing down since his return.
Since joining Liverpool, Alisson has been a standout performer for us. And his presence has come as a blessing in disguise, considering that we only had Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius as options between the sticks before the Brazilian joined us.
