According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has laid praise on Reds youngsters Neco Williams and Curtis Jones in the aftermath of the 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge.
Both youngsters were some of Liverpool’s better players on the night as the club succumbed to a third defeat in four games. Klopp believes that the experience will have taught the duo a lot. The Liverpool manager was pleased with how the duo adapted to what was a very trying situation.
Both Jones and Williams have been regular fixtures in Liverpool’s Cup competitions this season. They also made the trip to Qatar to take part in the World Club Cup. Although neither of them played any part in the Reds’ triumph, the experience will have proved beneficial.
Klopp went on to say that he expects more to come from the duo who have enjoyed a fruitful breakout season in the senior side. He admitted that there were times when the players stood out but also made mistakes.
“That’s a learning process. You can’t learn it at home in your living room, you have to learn it on the pitch and react to it”
The Liverpool manager also went on to state that the emergence of Neco Williams at right-back will provide to be beneficial for the club.s future. The Reds already have the young Trent Alexander-Arnold cement himself as arguably the best right back in the league. Having Williams also come through will add to the depth apart from giving Klopp more options.
Williams has three assists in five senior appearances in the Cups. He provided the cross for Divock Origi’s last-second leveller in the Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal. He played a starring role as a young Reds side defeated Everton at Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup.
The two games will also be remembered fondly by Jones. The midfielder scored the winning penalty against Arsenal and curled one into the top corner to down the Toffees in the latter.
