Anfield given permission to host public events despite complaints

According to Liverpool Echo, the City Council’s planning committee has agreed to extend the club’s permit to hold concerts at Anfield from June 5 20-21 to June 30 2021.

The extension comes despite the complaints made by some neighbors regarding the issue. According to the terms of the extension, the club has another year in which they can host up to six events at the stadium, outside the football season. The permit now covers the full six-week period after matches at Anfield stop.

Turley’s Sam Ryan, who was representing the club this morning, revealed that residents had been consulted on the plans as a part of a large scale consultation from LFC.

Ms. Ryan confirmed that the residents in the area were made aware of the club’s plans prior to the extension. The major events to be held comprise concerts or other non-football events.

Neighbours raise concerns

She revealed that the aggrieved parties from the neighbourhood were represented at the meeting and got to argue their points about the difficulties faced by the residents on such nights.

They argued that road closures from the concerts and other events, as well as the noise that is generated, caused disturbances to residents in the vicinity. However, committee members sided with the club and voted to extend the permit.

The report sent to committee members said:

“Permission is being sought to extend the duration of the permission from 5 to 30 June enabling up to 6 concerts or other major events to be held at the stadium in 2021.

“Each day of activity would count as one event; for example, if a single artist were to play at the stadium for a number of days that would be classified as multiple events.”

These activities run until June 20, when LFC will commence pitch preparation works for the following season. The Reds initially got permission to hold non-sporting events at Anfield on a temporary basis in 2018.
