Liverpool Football Club have issued an update regarding the coronavirus outbreak that is spreading across the world. Posting on their official site, the Reds revealed that they are continuing to monitor and implement the government’s advice on how to handle the outbreak.
The Merseysiders have taken the opportunity to remind all the fans attending Anfield to take not of safe hygienic practices to risk the spread of the virus. The club has ensured
that hand sanitizers and antibacterial handwash are made available in all washrooms Anfield. Posters imploring fans to take responsibility for their personal hygiene will also be put up at the stadium.Meanwhile, on the pitch, the players will continue to avoid handshakes prior to kick-off. UEFA will continue to use mascots but they will only be allowed to line up to welcome the players onto the pitch. The aim is to minimize if not avoid any direct contact.
The clubs have implored any supporter displaying symptoms that are consistent with coronavirus to ensure that they familiarise themselves with the chief medical officer’s advice on self-isolation.
The Premier League clash between Manchester City and Arsenal became the first English game to be postponed due to the outbreak. The precautionary step was taken after the Gunners came into contact with the Olympiakos owner Evangelos Merinakis during the club’s Europa League clash.
Merinakis was diagnosed with the virus, which makes the action necessary.
The outbreak has affected a number of tournaments across the world. Serie A has been suspended for a month while Spain have advocated that La Liga matches take place behind closed doors.
