Liverpool Football Club have voluntarily suspended all activities at the club’s Melwood training complex following the coronavirus pandemic. This comes on the heels of the news that football matches across England would stay suspended at least until April 4.
The club confirmed on their official site that all the players and staff will voluntarily suspend activity at the facility. This is a temporary measure that will be overturned once the situation is stable.
The coronavirus outbreak has also affected the football world in a way that has not been seen since the second world war. No lesser than seven Premier League clubs announced that their players would be in self-isolation.
Liverpool were scheduled to play Everton this weekend but now the fixture has been rearranged. The first-team training took place yesterday and the players have all been given individual programs to follow during this unexpected break.
The report goes on to say that the club will continue to work with their medical team and other relevant authorities to monitor the situation. The club will make the decision on a return date to the facility following these interactions. Liverpool will aim to ensure that the decision gives the squad the best chance of preparing for their next fixture.
Liverpool had already taken a proactive role in tackling the pandemic by publishing a pointer ahead of the match against Atletico Madrid. The Merseysiders had taken the opportunity to remind all the fans attending Anfield to take note of safe hygienic practices to curb the spread of the virus.
The club has ensured that hand sanitizers and antibacterial handwash were made available in all washrooms at Anfield. Posters imploring fans to take responsibility for their personal hygiene were also put up at the stadium.
