Following the decision to suspend football in England until April 4, Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has requested fans to be cautious following the coronavirus pandemic that is gripping the world.
The Brazilian international took to his Instagram account to send the message across to the fans.
Firmino stressed on the need for everyone to do their part during these troubled times. He also called upon the Almighty to bless and protect everyone as the world continues to cope with the outbreak.
Liverpool also announced their decision to suspend all activities at the club’s Melwood training base for the foreseeable future. The club confirmed on their official site that all the players and staff will voluntarily suspend activity at the facility.
The Reds also confirmed that individual programs have been handed out to the players following the unexpected break from schedule.
Liverpool had already taken an active role in tackling the pandemic by publishing a pointer ahead of the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid. The Merseysiders had taken the opportunity to remind all fans attending Anfield to take serious note of safe hygienic practices to prevent the spread of the virus.
The club had ensured that hand sanitizers and antibacterial handwash were made available in all washrooms at Anfield. Liverpool also went as far as to ensure that posters imploring fans to take responsibility for their personal hygiene were also put up at the stadium.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also took personal charge as he penned a letter to fans. He urged everyone to take care of themselves and their loved ones, while also looking after the vulnerable people in society.
It is refreshing to see a manager make use of his clout among the fanbase to help spread a positive message that cuts across distinctions and loyalties.
The Liverpool FC Foundation and Barcelona also decided to postpone the charity match the sides were due to play on 28 March 2020. The director of the foundation, Matt Parish, thanked the supporters who purchased tickets for the event. He went on to assure them that their tickets will be valid for the rearranged fixture.
