RB Salzburg coach opens up on Takumi Minamino’s behaviour before Liverpool move

RB Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch has praised Takumi Minamino’s professionalism prior to the Japanese forward’s transfer to Liverpool in the January transfer window. (Goal h/t Daily Mail)

Minamino spent five years with RB Salzburg and made 199 appearances, scoring 64 goals in the process.The 25-year-old ended up sealing a transfer to Liverpool in January this year, in a £7.25million

deal.

Marsch has now revealed that Minamino and Salzburg came to know about Liverpool’s interest in November last year. This was after Liverpool’s 4-3 win against RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League, during which Minamino scored and assisted one goal apiece.

And the Japanese international made up his mind to move to Anfield immediately. Having made his decision, Minamino was at his best behaviour at the Austrian outfit till he completed the transfer to Liverpool. And Marsch has heaped praise on the 25-year-old’s conduct and professionalism. (Goal h/t Daily Mail

Speaking to Goal and SPOX, Marsch said (h/t Daily Mail):

“Taki made it clear at the beginning of the talks in November that he would like to leave in winter. “He wanted to make sure that he behaved best in the rest of his time in Salzburg.”

Minamino joined Liverpool on a four-and-a-half-year contract that runs till 2024. The 22-cap Japanese international hasn’t been able to make the desired impact since arriving though. Till date, he has featured only seven times for us and is yet to score or assist a goal.
